research unit 22 handmade portrait
For my 3rd vimeo project handmade portrait unit 22 i looked at lots of different videos which relate to my ideas on YouTube and vimeo. The video has to be 1min to 3min long in the style of an interview/documentary feel using the person hobby or interest as a focal point. I looked at a few videos but there are two that stood out for me the most they both touch on things I like (art) which makes it a bit more appealing to me and they have some good technique to their filming.
Texture: Donna Brass from Matt Brass on Vimeo.
i liked the look of this video it appealed to me because of the content on which they were talking about i liked the way the camera gets up close to what is Happening and focuses on the art.
since he could hold a pen: a 3 minute profile from JJ Gavillet on Vimeo.
I also liked this video for most of the same reason I did on the first it has some of the same styles as the first one does using close up shots focuses on the art but this one had more of the person that she was interviewing and less of the art.

research unit 22 haiku
i have watched lots of differnt types of haiku short vimeo projects to research and understand how a haiku works and what are the key elements.
a haiku is a 5 7 5 syllable poem. the assignment was to make a 5 sec 7 sec 5sec video on the flip cams based on a haiku of our choice.
i liked this haiku because of the way he uses simple shots but they work for the poem he has choice i like the way he use contrast to present his work useing the sun and the trees and plants in shadow to get a differnt style of filmaking.
i choice this video for my research because of the way it was presented i like the idea of using stopmotion for my haiku i think it brings a differnt look to short films and the way it was drew roughtly this kind of animation dosent have to be perfect to work.

reflective writing practice
scenario 1
i am shooting a music video in a small studio in burton and i have booked the studio for three hours at a price of £20 an hour i will also be using a music artist from nottingham.i planed to use the studio for three hours but due to the late arrival of the artist i was behind an hour so i had to book the studio for another hour which i will have to pay at a later date.first i decided to use a green screen backdrop with a low light but when it came to editing i realised that the low light i had used was to dark and it did not light the artist.so i decided to use a dark background and take away the green screen and adjust the lighting which worked well. editing went
well but i did not have enough footage so the production was a fail.
after i had finished the shoot i felt a bit down after all the time and money i had spent on this music video but i have learnt a lot from this shoot like have a backup plan our test the lighting.
the best think about it was the experience i have gained from this shoot.but the worst think about it was the time and money i have spent on it.
i think that from the experience i have learnt to use my time and plan more.
i think if i booked the studio longer and use the lighting more effectively i could of had more footage to edit.
if i did it again i would book the studio for longer and get as much as i could and try out different lighting and backdrops.
scenario 2
i am shooting a short factual production using a new camera i have never used before i will be shooting for half of the day and editing for the rest as the deadline is for tomorrow. i was shooting in and around the streets.but when it came to editing i did realise that some of the footage was out of focus and some of the shots were pointed at the sun which meant that the aperture was almost closed. i had no choice but to use the footage i had i had good interviews but the footage let me down .
i felt disappointed with the footage but i learnt some good lessons with the shoots.
the shoot was really bad and i realised that i needed to look and learnt more about the camera
but i like the interviews.
the thing that i learnt was that you can not just go out and film
i could of filmed the short early so that i have got room for error
if i did it again i would use the camera and get used ton it

local tour
first vimeo project
elvaston castle
its an one to two min documentary style video showing your local area.
i did a lot of research on derby and elvaston castle to get to now the area better and the history of the estate. i found out a lot about the castle and its history from who owned it to were it is now which will help me and give me ideas for my video.
the vimeo projects is to create an tour guide/documentary about your local area i choice elvaston castle because its a place were i went growing up.the main purpose of my video is to highlight the fact that it was once a great place for families and tourist to go .my video is set in the past and present day showing what it used to be like using home video and my own footage shot on a flip camera.i will be using different camera angles and maybe different shots of people own opinion on the matter.
my backup plan
if the first idea goes wrong our for some reason i have an other idea which is a local ghost tour taking the idea from most hunted were i go around derby looking for the paranormal and get some history on what happened in history.

revolution mill from kyle milton on Vimeo.
i like this short because it kind of relates to one of my ideas for the short projects it includes some of the same concepts that one of my ideas have. the short itself its shot almost freehand no tripods ect and it brings a different feel to itReno - Boom and Bust from Kurt Larsen on Vimeo.
i like this short it focus on the topic in hand like what it can be or what the venue or place us to look like.the opening shot draws you in with the music the way it was shot and then it goes to a more serious tone.
research
i researched lots of different short 2 to 3 min videos on vimeo which were all shot differently.
for my first vimeo short project i will be researching different types of documentary style films on youtube our vimeo to get an idea of what the short should look like.
i will also be researching elvaston castle which is an 11th century estate which was owned by different types of owners one of the first was said to be sir thomas hanselin. the estate has been a place for tourist and locals to go around since 1970.but since 2004 the lack of visitor and dwindling finances is gradually falling to decline.for one of my video i have an idea of showing maybe the past our some of my home videos when me and my family used to go when i was a child and how it used to be full of people enjoying it and now how there struggling to keep it running and peoples views on the matter.my next idea for a video is almost the same concept but instead of looking at the issue of the castle decline i would look at its history and the sightings of the paranormal people have said to have seen.my last idea is more about derby town asking people about it way the like our dislike the town and maybe history about the iconic buildings our places in derby.
